Coming Attractions: The Skeleton Twins
Halfway through the year, some of the possible award contenders start making an appearance. One of those could be Craig Johnson’s The Skeleton Twins, which takes SNL alumni Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig on a more dramatic route than they’re accustomed to.
After ten years of estrangement, twins Maggie and Milo coincidentally cheat death on the same day, prompting them to reunite and confront how their lives went so wrong. As the twins’ reunion reinvigorates them both, they realize that the key to fixing their lives just may lie in fixing their relationship with each other.
Besides Hader and Wiig, the movie also stars Ty Burrell and Luke Wilson. Check out the trailer.
Another preview popping up on the web as of late is the very promising drama The Drop, directed by Michaël R. Roskam and starring Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace, the late James Gandolfini, the underrated Matthias Schoenaerts (De Rouille et d’Os) and lots of dogs! For that one, I’m going to redirect you to my friend Andy’s online home, The Film Oracle. Click on the image below to watch!
Wow. Both of those look incredible. I think I look forward to The Drop. . ..just a *touch* more simply b/c I think that’s the very very last performance we’ll see from Gandolfini. I believe?
But The Skeleton Twins also sounds great. I’ve been waiting for Hader to step into this kind of role. Wiig seems to have been there for a bit, and it’s great to see her growing even more. Can’t wait!

Yeah, I think I’m looking forward to it more as well. Before the trailer I didn’t even know Gandolfini was involved. I could’ve sworn Enough Said was his last.
And yeah, Kristen has been flexing her dramatic muscles a bit as of late, even a little in Bridesmaids, but great to see Hader there too. No trace of Stefon! haha

Thanks for the shoutout, Fernando! I really like the look of The Skeleton Twins, Wiig and Hader seem to make a really good comedy pairing, although I’m aware of the latter he’s probably not that well known in the UK (sadly we don’t get SNL here!), but he is familiar. As for The Drop, I also thought Enough Said was Gandolfini’s last film (I even felt sad watching it until I found out afterwards!) and although I wasn’t overly impressed with that, I’m hoping this will be a better swansong.

You’re welcome!
And I didn’t realize you didn’t get SNL over there. You have to look out for videos of Hader’s character Stefon. They’re hilarious. And I love Wiig, so looking forward to seeing them together again, even if it’s in a drama.
And yeah, Enough Said was good but nothing extraordinary, so I hope this is a way for Gandolfini to go out with a bang so to speak.

Nice to see Bill Hader exploring dramatic roles. I think he might be ok, I also saw him in the Eleanor Rigby trailer which is more of a drama.

Right! He seems to be going on that route. That’s cool.
