Flash Review: Godzilla [2014]
Is it Gareth Edwards’s, like, goal in life to bore people to death or am I just immune to his “charms”? After Monsters and now this, I am almost convinced he’s spearheading a special project to put everyone in the world to sleep simultaneously via celluloid. It takes a special kind of talent to make a film about giant monsters wrecking shit up and have it be as boring as a Béla Tarr coloring book. And it’s dark. Not in a mysterious and challenging kind of way, but in a “I can’t see anything/why does every fight have to take place at night?” kind of way. Juliette Binoche and Bryan Cranston are solid in all-too-brief appearances, Sally Hawkins and Elizabeth Olsen go to waste in thankless roles and Aaron Taylor-Johnson is (once again) miscast. Granted, there are sudden jolts of energy and a few interesting stylistic flourishes here and there, but I should not be thinking about what I’m gonna have for breakfast tomorrow during a monster epic, dammit!
Haha! I agree with u to a certain extent. The first half is incredibly dull but it’s really good towards the end

The scenes toward the end are a little better but I was never not bored (at least a little).

Pretty awesome movie. A lot more awesome than that crappy 1998-version. Good review.

Yep, I think we have similar view on this one. Overall it’s just too serious to be a fun Summer flick. Poor Aaron Johnson needs a meaty role that utilizes his talent, I mean why do they make these talented Brits to be a cookie-cutter beefcake?? Might as well just hire Channing Tatum!

Yep. And takes itself too seriously as well! And yes, I am sure Aaron Johnson has the talent. It’s so strange that he’s constantly miscast!

I liked the slow build, so I appreciated a film that took its time to tell a story leading up to a rousing climax. That part where Godzilla vomited fire into, well don’t want to spoil it, but that part? Yeah everyone stood up and cheered. Maybe it was my audience, but it was an insane experience.

I thought that was kinda cool but I never really *felt* anything, you know? It was so dull and bland for me, as a whole.

Nice review. And I’m pretty much the only person over at my school who actually has said this out loud. I felt it was like watching paint dry.

I completely disagree here. Well almost. Sorry. I got bored when they started loading the kids I to the bus halfway through but I thought the buildup was very exciting and the last 20 minutes were fantastic.
