Trailer overload: Colossal, Power Rangers, Logan and The Discovery
Hello everyone! Fernando here. It’s been a while (I know, I say that every time). Today I want to share with you some of the best trailers I’ve seen this week and gauge your excitement about some of these 2017 releases.
First, we have a decidedly strange film that’s so weird it could just work out. Colossal, directed by Nacho Vigalondo, stars Anne Hathaway as “a woman who discovers that severe catastrophic events are somehow connected to the mental breakdown from which she’s suffering”. Dan Stevens and Jason Sudeikis also appear. Here’s the teaser.
I grew up on Power Rangers, was obsessed with them and had to get my hands on every item of merch I could possibly find (my poor parents). This year they’re back on the big screen with some new, young talents, as well as Bryan Cranston and Elizabeth Banks. This looks kinda bad but I’m sure it’ll still be fun and a hearty dose of nostalgia for some, including yours truly.
The best of the bunch is definitely Logan, Hugh Jackman’s last standalone film as Wolverine. Some pundits have been touting this James Mangold-directed flick as the next “Dark Knight”, a comic-book movie with prestige allure and award prospects. Let’s see if it lives up to the hype. The trailer is certainly great.
Finally, we have the teaser for Netflix’s The Discovery, a sci-fi tale with an interesting, albeit random, cast. Rooney Mara, Jason Segel, Robert Redford, Jesse Plemons and Riley Keough star in this “love story set one year after the existence of the afterlife is scientifically verified”.
BONUS: I know it’s not a trailer but watching clips from La La Land the other day I stumbled upon this gem of a music video. Will Butler’s (Arcade Fire) “Anna” stars the lovely Emma Stone and she’s superb in it.
Well, that’s all, folks! Which one was your favorite? Tell me in the comments 😀
Definitely, LOGAN, but the music video was a blast, too. 🙂

It sure looks like it’ll be a good one. And the video is so fun! I’ve seen it a lot this last couple days.

Maybe the last one looks interesting (hadn’t heard of it, thanks) – but those others I could live without!

Fair enough. Hope you like The Discovery. That one comes out in two months. Looking forward to the Mara-Segel pairing

I skipped Collossol at TIFF – not a huge Anne Hathaway fan – but I see it listed at SXSW and am wondering if I should give it a go.

You should! At the very least it’ll be fun, I guess

Agreed! The Discovery made my #2 on Top 10 Films to See at Sundance article for Awards Circuit. Can’t wait for Logan! I’m seeing the world premiere in Berlin and publishing a review shortly after. I’ll let you know if it lives up to the trailer!

I loved that one and I saw The Discovery, but had forgotten all about it!

Power Rangers looked good. Wish I’d been a kid when it came out.
