Coming Attractions: The Revenant
Look at this up here! Isn’t it wonderful?
Alejandro González Iñárritu didn’t rest on his laurels after his Birdman swept up every award there is, and instead went to work on The Revenant.
El Negro‘s latest is based on the true story of the frontiersman, Hugh Glass, who in the 1820’s set out on a path of vengeance against those who left him for dead after a bear mauling (IMDb).
The first teaser came out earlier today and it is glorious. There’s already Oscar buzz for Leonardo DiCaprio. Tom Hardy, Domhnall Gleeson, Will Poulter and Lukas Haas round out the cast. Check out the preview below.
Besides looking great and getting us all excited with very little dialogue, it definitely feels like an Iñárritu film, only on a much bigger scale (and budget).
So, what did you think of this teaser? Is it too early to call it one of the frontrunners of the 2016 award season? Will this be the one to break Leo’s Oscar curse? Will Tom Hardy get his first nomination? Can Alejandro and cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki clean up two years in a row? Tell me in the comments!
Damn this teaser is incredible. Saw it earlier via Cinematic Katzenjammer. I probably would watch it over and over right now if my internet connection wasn’t as slow as dial-up AOL. haha!
I would absolutely LOVE for DiCaprio to take home a statue, but how many times do we have to set ourselves up for disappointment on that front? I’m going to say nothing, but hope for the best. 🙂

I know, right? Great visuals and sounds.
You’re right about DiCaprio, though. Let’s just cross our fingers and hope for justice.

Wow, now that is some trailer. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!! Hopefully the movie delivers, it looks like it really could – you can really see that this one has a big budget to work with. I hope this is as good as it looks!

I’m hoping the same thing. It does look pretty epic.

Indeed! It also looks like a unique role for Leo to tackle, I haven’t seen him in anything close to this type of film. Will be keeping my eyes peeled for this one!

I agree. I don’t know much about the part but I have a feeling it won’t have a whole lot of dialog.

If that is the case then Leo and co have an even harder job to make this work. Tom Hardy almost looks unrecognisable in that trailer too! Again, thanks for bringing this to my attention 🙂

I am definitely excited for this one but I think it’s way too early for Oscar buzz. What a great cast!

I’m curious, why do you refer to Iñarritu as El Negro?
