Coming Attractions: Ricki and the Flash

Polish immigrant faced with the mother of all choices, Woody Allen‘s lesbian ex-wife, absentee mother fighting for custody, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, an Australian mom falsely accused of baby murder, a TV chef and author, a stern nun, boss from hell… it was only a matter of time before she played a rocker. At 65, no less. If anyone can pull it off, it’s her.

A new Meryl Streep movie is an event, and an Oscar nomination waiting to happen. Could this mean nod #20 is in her near future? She does seem to be on solid form here (when is she not?), and she’s in pretty great company.

Jonathan Demme (The Silence of the Lambs, Philadelphia) directs Oscar-winning Diablo Cody‘s (Juno, Young Adult) script.

Ricki and the Flash also stars Sebastian Stan (Captain America: The Winter Soldier), Kevin Kline, Streep’s own daughter Mamie Gummer and Audra McDonald.

He does! I’ve seen the movie by now and while I wasn’t wowed (it’s pretty forgettable), Meryl is solid as always
