Coming Attractions: Into The Woods
Finally there’s a preview for the heavily anticipated Into the Woods, a Disney film based on the Broadway musical by Stephen Sondheim.
Woods is directed by Oscar-winning Rob Marshall (Chicago) and is “set in an alternate world of various Grimm fairy tales… (it) intertwines the plots of several Brothers Grimm fairy tales and follows them to explore the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests”.
If you’ve seen the trailer by now, or seen some stills from the film, you already know why I’m so excited for it.
Yep, that’s Meryl Streep as The Witch, heading an amazing cast that also includes Emily Blunt, Anna Kendrick, Chris Pine, Christine Baranski and Johnny Depp. Check out the teaser, which sadly doesn’t include any songs from the film.
I have to say, I’m a little underwhelmed by this clip. However, I’m gonna give ITW the benefit of the doubt and hope that the fantastic cast and solid director will make this one of the best films of the year. Here’s hoping.
I just saw this last night! I definitely will watch this as I grew up watching Disney fairy tales. In fact I’m including this on my Five for the Fifth post 😀

I think this one looks awful, but I’m not that fond of musicals to begin with 🙂 I’ll see it for Emily Blunt, though.

I do love musicals, but I’m not in love with that trailer. Emily Blunt is a great reason to check it out, though.

I just saw this trailer last night before Guardians of the Galaxy. The trailer makes me wonder BUT it does make me really excited to see it 🙂 The cast is kickass so I’m holding some high hopes.

I’m really looking forward to this too! Now that a regular trailer has been released, I’m feeling more excited for this. I’m curious to hear some of the cast singing. Anna Kendrick has a great voice. I wonder about some of the others though . . . hoping to be pleasantly surprised! 😀

Yeah! I love Anna’s voice. Meryl’s is pretty good too. Depp sang in Sweeney Todd. I’m curious about Pine, and I feel like I’ve heard Blunt sing somewhere. James Corden is supposed to be very good as well. He starred in that Paul Potts film.

Yes! I wasn’t wowed by Streep in Mamma Mia, but I don’t think she’s bad. I LOVE Depp, but I felt almost bad for him in Sweeney Todd, just because he didn’t seem confident at all. I felt like his voice just didn’t hold. But it may depend on the music he’s singing in it. Yes, James Corden was in that Paul Potts film – that’s a movie I’ve been wanting to see. From what I know, dude has a great voice! I think he might be one of the best singers in it. And yeah, I guess we’ll have to see about Pine. I was almost surprised that someone like Kristen Bell didn’t get offered a part after her amazing voice was discovered in Frozen.

Right! Also loved Bell in Burlesque. Hope everybody brings their A-game to this film!

Yeah I must admit that trailer is a little underwhelming as well but it looks visually dazzling, and has a top-notch cast. Where can this go wrong? 😀

Hope nothing does! I have faith, despite Nine being a tad disappointing.

Yeah I actually never ended up seeing that one, even though I told myself multiple times I would!

It’s OK, and the cast does a great job (at least most of it), but it could’ve been so much better. I actually think Daniel Day-Lewis was miscast and Javier Bardem (the initial choice) would’ve worked better.

U know a movie is a little off when u feel Daniel Day-Lewis is miscast. 🙂

haha just realized I was thinking of another film. I didn’t realize there’s a movie called ‘Nine’ and another, the animated one (which is what I’m thinking of) called ‘9’

LOL! Yes, there was quite a lot of confusion back in the day. They even came out in the same year, 2009! All this nine talk made me want to see it so am now watching it (the musical, not the animated)
