Coming Attractions: What If
“I just had sex and I’m about to eat nachos! It’s the greatest moment of my life!”, exclaims Allan (Adam Driver) at the start of the trailer for What If (aka The F Word). Isn’t that an awesome opening line? I love how it encapsulates pretty much every young man’s obsession with sex and food in a silly little phrase.
I’m a fan of the romantic comedy done right and this looks like it’ll fall in that category. Recent examples include About Time and Ruby Sparks; this Ireland-Canada co-production even shares its leading lady with the latter, and the friend-zone angle is reminiscent of THE romcom, When Harry Met Sally…, and the genre’s queen, the late Nora Ephron.
Medical school dropout Wallace has been repeatedly burned by bad relationships. He meets Chantry, an animator who lives with her longtime boyfriend Ben, and they form an instant connection, striking up a close friendship. Still, there is no denying the chemistry between them, leading the pair to wonder, what if the love of your life is actually your best friend?
What If stars Daniel Radcliffe, Zoe Kazan, Adam Driver, Mackenzie Davis, Rafe Spall and Oona Chaplin. Check out the trailer.
Sounds good to me!

Yeah, me too! He’s pretty good. Looking forward to seeing him in Star Wars.

Same here. I got the shock of my life (well, slight exaggeration, but I was surprised) to see him leap from Girls to the sci fi cannon. He deserves it.

He does. Pretty good actor. Although, judging from the trailer, his role in What If is very similar to what he does on Girls.

I like the way this looks a lot. Ever since checking out Kill Your Darlings I am wanting to see more from Radcliffe. I am not sure if I’ll ever bring myself to watching Harry Potter. But these kinds of smaller roles for him are much more my thing! I look forward to seeing this for sure.

As a huge fan of HP, I hope you see those eventually, but yeah, it’s nice to see Daniel in other roles. Hope this one’s good!

This doesn’t look like anything majorly groundbreaking, BUT I love Zoe Kazan, Adam Driver is ace and Daniel Radcliffe is convincing me one role at a time that there is life after Potter. Here’s hoping!

Yeah. I just looks like a solid romcom and sometimes that’s enough! Big fan of the cast so I hope this one works.
