Flash Review: Maleficent [2014]
Perhaps in another scenario, I would’ve absolutely loathed a movie that takes a beloved animated story and its iconic villain and turns them on their heads, rendering the horned evil fairy into more of a misunderstood antihero than an all-out baddie, all the while redefining “true love’s kiss”… but not this time. Despite being too cheesy and over-the-top on occasion (it’s Angelina Jolie wearing horns and a cape in a Disney movie, after all), this surprisingly feminist retelling of Sleeping Beauty somehow works. Jolie is scene-chewingly great in a movie you won’t remember much of afterwards, but is consistently entertaining during.
Nice review dude, I am probably going to get around to this at some point. NOt going to jump at the first chance, though. There’s so many other things i must get to first! 😀

We are 100% in agreement Fernando. Is this a great movie? No. Did I like it? Yes.
Whether it be with an arched brow or a curl of the lips, Angelina Jolie IS Maleficent. She possesses the ability to captivate an audience even when virtually everything else around her is a disappointment.

And yeah, I agree on Jolie. She was perfectly cast as Maleficent. My favorite scene was when she storms Aurora’s christening.

The trailer looks interesting, but judging by your review Fernando and many others, the result is so-so. I don’t mind reboots or re-imaginings so long as they have a different approach to the original story, instead of just rehashing (e.g. The Amazing Spider-Man, Man of Steel). I like the idea of restyling an ‘evil’ character into one that is misunderstood though!

Yeah, the different approach is there but the writing is not very good to be honest. Angelina Jolie is the highlight, of course.

Very pretty movie, but that’s pretty much all there is to it. Not much else, except for a good performance from Jolie. Good review.

Yeah, me too. I was prepared for a terrible film but I had so much fun and it flew by for me. Great casting there with Jolie.
