Apparently i’m a versatile blogger
Hello everybody! Well, a few days ago I became the lucky recipient of the Versatile Blogger Award, courtesy of my friend Michael over at the incredible It Rains… You Get Wet (seriously, follow him).
It’s the second time I’ve received the VBA from Michael, so I guess he likes my blog? This means a lot, my friend, and I’m very grateful for the mention!
The award comes with a set of rules, though, and they are:
- Thank your nominator and provide a link to their blog.
- Make your own fifteen nominations and tell them they have been nominated
- Offer up seven interesting facts about yourself
Okay, #1 is done. Now for my 15 nominees: I’m aware that most of you have probably already received this accolade but I don’t care 😉 If you are among the 15 names mentioned, it’s my way of saying I love reading your stuff. If you’re not, it doesn’t mean I don’t! Also, feel free to do your own VBA post like this one, but it’s totally OK if you don’t feel like doing that.

Now for 15 facts about me. Yes, I thought I had to include 15 facts so I wrote them down and when I read Michael’s post again, it turned out that it said 15 nominees and only 7 facts. But whatever. Hope these are interesting enough!
- When I was a kid, I had a recurring nightmare where I was being chased across rooftops, while turning into a wolf. In the dream, Dad explained that my little transfiguration problem had to do with mixing different brands of mustard. WTF?
- I cried when Michael Jackson died. Several times.
- I like to think of myself as a smart guy, but I have kind of a hard time telling left from right or telling the time from an analog clock. I can do it, but it takes a little while. Not a split-second thing like it is for pretty much everybody 😦
- I got both my ears pierced two weeks ago. My mother was so mad she didn’t speak to me for like a day and a half, which is a record. We’re cool now, though.
- I learned to read at age 3 thanks to my cousin, who is a teacher.
- I make a mean potato frittata.
- I’m related to the legendary Carlos Santana. I haven’t ever met him or anything, but my father tells me he’s my grandmother’s cousin.
- My first “serious” movie crush was on Drew Barrymore in Charlie’s Angels. Yowza.
- I haven’t ever had major surgery or broken a bone. Well, unless you count a tiny fracture in one of my toes, which happened back in my swimming days. It was so minor that I only found out about it after my doctor saw it years later in an X-Ray and told me it just kinda healed on its own.
- My current ringtone is this gorgeous jazz version of Lana Del Rey’s “Young and Beautiful” from The Great Gatsby by The Bryan Ferry Orchestra.
- Two years ago I had a mini Twitter feud with film critic Richard Roeper after what I thought was a hugely insensitive joke about Peter Dinklage. I may have overreacted a little.
- I’m turning 24 in a few weeks and lately I can’t stop thinking about how James Dean died at that same age. I’m not being morbid, but I just find it amazing that someone who only made three films and died before even getting to a quarter of a century can still be considered a legend.
- “Makes Me Wonder” by Maroon 5, “Fly Me to the Moon” by Frank Sinatra, “Show Me How to Live” by Audioslave, “Rock Your Body” by Justin Timberlake and “Valerie” by Amy Winehouse are five of my favorite songs.
- My dog Oso (a Labrador/German Shepherd cross) first belonged to my neighbors, but we adopted him after they had to move to an apartment and could no longer keep him. We love each other now, but it didn’t start too well for us. He almost bit my hand off one time when I was trying to steal a flyer from my neighbors’ gate. True story.
- My family and I went on a tour of Japan and Thailand back in 2002 and it was one of the best experiences of my life. I was about to turn 12, so I wasn’t the smartest traveler -didn’t take good pictures or bought enough souvenirs; I didn’t write about my experiences or even jot down names of places I visited- but I still remember a lot about of that trip and I’m so thankful for the experience. Besides, I can always go back, right?
Fernando! I am beyond honored. You’re the sweetest for adding me to your nominee list.
I can only hope my blog becomes as great as yours is!
xo!

Thanks, April! And yeah, I think my toes are lucky. That is not my frittata, just a random picture I googled, but it is pretty good! And still a month and a half to go, but thanks for the birthday wishes 😉

You’re welcome. It’s crazy how he died so young and still remains one of the brightest stars in film, huh?
Still more than a month to go, but thanks a lot for the good birthday wishes.

Thanks so much for the award, Fernando, that’s so sweet of you for thinking of me 😀 Hmmm, mixing different brands of mustard makes you have a nightmare?? I better not do that then, ahah. Ooooh I LOVE potato frittata, next time I see you I hope you’ll make one 😉
I’ve never even been to Japan and Thailand before and those countries are closer to my home country. Fun stuff, my friend!

Oh no, the mustard stuff was in the dream. My dad (in the dream) told me the reason I was turning into the werewolf

Ahhh well that made sense, sort of, ahah. I have weird dreams like that often, well not werewolf related but just weird in general. I wish I have a dream machine to collect ’em all, I could make a VERY bizarre movie out of them, ahah.

Thank you very much Fernando for the nomination. that’s very kind.
I liked reading your facts.
the ones that interested me most were the Michael Jackson (was a big fan during his “Thriller” and “Beat it” days) , the wolf dream, and Drew Barrymore who still looks younger and beautiful in her latest movies. Also I heard that in Japan train stations, workers use shields to squeeze passengers into the train carts so they can fit.
