Philip Seymour Hoffman [1967-2014]
Hello, everybody. I came in to work this Sunday to the terribly sad news that one of the best in the business and one of my personal favorite actors, Philip Seymour Hoffman, had been found dead in his apartment. He was 46.
The story is still developing, but you can keep track of it here.
Hoffman was an immense talent and an actor you could always trust in to give a solid performance. He was memorable in movies like Scent of a Woman, Charlie Wilson’s War, Doubt, Moneyball, Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead, Magnolia, The Master, The Big Lebowski, Mission: Impossible III, Along Came Polly, Flawless, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Savages, Almost Famous, The Talented Mr. Ripley and Boogie Nights, among others. He won an Oscar in 2006 for Capote.
It’s tragic news. Hoffman is one of my favorite actors and he’s delivered one impressive performance after another. He will be missed.

Definitely tragic. Also one of my favorites; he was one of those who gave a great performance every single time. I’ll miss him.

So terribly sad, at such a young age as well. I saw A Late Quartet fairly recently and Hoffman gave one of his usual dependable and utterly convincing performances as always. Such a shame that we don’t really notice how great someone actually is until they’re gone. He will be sorely missed.

Yes. So young and I bet he had so much more to give, acting-wise. He was one of the most consistent, dependable actors in the business. Gone too soon.

His filmography is pretty amazing. You’ll discover a lot of gems there, not only in his performances, but the movies themselves.

Had no idea, either. And I’m still very surprised he left us so young and unexpectedly. He’ll definitely be missed.
