Superman vs. Zuckerberg, JT turns 33, Meryl can play anything!
I know the topic is not as fresh right now as it was a few hours ago when it broke out, but I hadn’t had the chance to blog about Hollywood’s latest shocking casting news.
I felt miserable today at work because I really wanted to post about this but I never found a few spare minutes (an unusually very busy Friday here at the station) but I also didn’t want this day to end without sharing my two cents.
If you still don’t know what the hell I’m talking about, this morning Warner announced two HUGE casting news regarding 2016’s follow up to Man of Steel, known as Batman vs. Superman: Alfred, Bruce Wayne’s loyal butler, will be played by Jeremy Irons, a choice completely overshadowed by the election of Jesse Eisenberg as Superman’s nemesis, Lex Luthor.
Eisenberg has been confirmed as the actor who’ll play the cunning Luthor, a part which Bryan Cranston, Matthew Goode and Joaquin Phoenix were rumored to be in the running for.
First things first: I can see Irons in the Alfred role, even if he’s a bit young for that part, but nothing a good makeup job couldn’t fix. Plus, he’s a proven talent (and British).
But, whoa, man. I am flabbergasted at the choice of Eisenberg for the big villain role.
A few years ago I’d dismissed him as a second-rate Michael Cera (I know, can you imagine?) but his work in The Squid and The Whale and his Academy-Award nominated turn as über-asshole Mark Zuckerberg in the amazing The Social Network made me see what a talent he is and how good he can be given the right material.
But still –and despite not being a Superman connoisseur or avid fan- I can’t see him as Lex Luthor. He may be a good actor but I doubt he’ll ever be able to portray evil and menacing or seem intimidating next to demigod Henry Cavill. This has got to be one of the oddest casting choices ever and while I really hope he proves me wrong and shuts me up and everything works out beautifully, I don’t think Jesse will pull it off.
Eisenberg and Irons will join Henry Cavill (Superman), Ben Affleck (Batman; remember the outrage?) and Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman) in the still-untitled sequel to Man of Steel.
What do you think of the casting news? Sound off below.

This has nothing to do with Superman or Jesse Eisenberg, and I know this isn’t a music blog but I just wanted to let y’all know today is the 33rd birthday of the coolest guy in the world, a.k.a. Justin Timberlake (who coincidentally starred alongside Eisenberg in Social Network). Besides, it’s my blog and I do what I want so I will congratulate him, even though of course he won’t read this or be a guest at my fantasy dinner party. Oh well…
What’s your favorite Justin Timberlake film performance or song?

Last but not least, I wanted to share this hilarious clip of my favorite actress Meryl Streep (who’s also a guest at my fantasy dinner party but I don’t think she’ll show up either), proving she can perform anything. Enjoy!
My favorite Timberlake music: “Dick In a Box.” 🙂
And the Eisenberg casting seems odd. I’m reserving judgement until I see the movie, though.

That’s a great choice 😉
and a good call on Eisenberg. I sort of want to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I hate Eisenberg now. I’ve always hated Timberfake. Man of Steel is pretty much screwed, in my opinion. I’m so mad about it I can’t even say anything positive. I’m sorry. It’s annoying in the extreme.

Whoa. I think that’s the most intense reaction I’ve seen so far. Understandable, though.

hahah yeah that was kinda bad, but still. I don’t think I’m going to change it. Not until I see trailers, anyway. 😉

I was sorely disappointed when I heard, but now, well, let’s see if he can pull it off. I love Lex Luthor; he’s the best thing about Superman.
Sounds like an awesome dinner party!

That’d be such a cool dinner party, right? Anyway, hope Eisenberg does a great job. It’d be such a relief.

You probably saw my post on Facebook when I heard the news, but I’ll reprint it here:
“Jesse Eisenberg is going to play Lex Luthor. Makes perfect sense really. I mean he’s played a diabolical genius before.”

LOL, that’s true.

The more I hear about this Batman film, the more I’m convinced it’s going to be arse. Plus if it keeps getting delayed, it will be longer til Affleck gets directing again which I am desperate to see happen.

Maybe the plan was for him to direct all along and save it? Haha

Hey Fernando, glad to find your blog 🙂 I am not as surprised by the casting decision, but isn’t he too young to play Lex Luthor. I know Jesse is 30 years old and so does Henry Cavill, but I am still confused and curious how he will pull it off. Furthermore, thanks for sharing the video of Meryl Streep on Ellen; she is the goddess of Hollywood.

Thanks, man. Yeah, that too. He definitely seems too young, even if he’s the same age as Cavill. We’ll see. And glad you liked the Meryl video!

I definitely don’t see Eisenberg as Lex Luthor at all. But then again I’ve sort of lost interest in Batman vs Superman already 😦
