Christian Bale: This is 40
Hello everybody, there’s a very important Hollywood birthday today!
Academy-Award winning Christian Charles Philip Bale was born on January 30th, 1974 in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, Wales, United Kingdom.
Bale is one of my favorite actors and he’s dazzled in fantastic roles in movies like The Prestige, 3:10 to Yuma, American Psycho, The Dark Knight trilogy, Rescue Dawn, The Machinist, Empire of the Sun and American Hustle, for which he’s up for a ‘Best Actor’ statuette at March’s Oscars.
What is your favorite Christian Bale performance?

On another note, someone who just lost his Oscar nomination is former Academy governor Bruce Broughton. Hadn’t heard about something like it before. Read why he has been disqualified in the ‘Original Song’ category here.
He’s got so many illustrious performances under his belt! I don’t know if I can pick one. I guess I’d pick The Prestige, possibly my favourite Nolan film.

That’s one of my favorites as well, both the performance and the Nolan film. Very underrated.

real everyman in 3.10 to Yuma, of course a great cross over performance between Batman and Bruce Wayne in TDK trilogy, but has to be American Psycho, I cannot picture anyone else owning that performance like he did!

That one seems to be the most popular choice!

yeah i might have to second that. He’s extraordinary in American Psycho. absolutely vicious.

I need to rewatch that one. Saw it such a long time ago!

It was his first role that really impressed me, so Empire of the Sun for me. It’s also a film my duo post partner and I will review later this year.

Cool. Looking forward to it. He was great in Empire. Although I saw it when he was already all grown up.

An excellent actor, indeed.
I never would have guess he’s 40.

Very committed and powerful actor. Too many to choose from but I’d have to go with The Fighter as his best. I thought he was outstanding in that film.

Love him, and looking forward to seeing him in American Psycho, which is the next film on my watchlist. 😀 Couldn’t ever had guess he’s 40, though. 😀

I will second The Fighter. Bale gives a really devoted performance there.

Yeah, I think “devoted” is a great adjective for Bale in general.

It’s hard to pinpoint one performance as the best. He’s done so much great work. Independent films, blockbusters, action films, family dramas, historical pieces, child acting, comedy, you name it. Such a versatile actor and always good.

He was definitely great in that one. Huge talent at such a young age, and he continues to impress at 40. There’s no slowing him down!

The Fighter, I reckon. Very believable performance.

People seem to love that one just as much as his work in American Psycho.

Nice toast, good sir. My favorite Bale performance. . .well I guess I revealed that above in a reply comment, but barring that choice. . .hmmm. . .I might actually have to choose his turn as Bruce Wayne. I know that seems like a cliche since the trilogy is so highly regarded and he’s helped out greatly by Nolan’s direction, but he really had a big job to do with that role and he’s now responsible for me being unable to see this Batfleck gimmick working out. There were many that came before Bale, too. Which is why I think he’s so damn good there. But i’d also understand this being an overlooked performance of his, he’s done so much

Yeah, it tends to get overlooked but he was in fine form as Wayne. Not the biggest fan of him as Batman, though, since I think his batvoice is just too much.
