Flash Review: The Counselor [2013]
Have you been bad? ‘Cause this movie has. I was not ready for a film directed by Ridley Scott and starring Michael Fassbender, Penélope Cruz, Javier Bardem, Cameron Diaz and Brad Pitt, to be a failure. I mean, how is that even possible? I can’t help but blame Cormac McCarthy, a renowned novelist that shouldn’t have gone into screenwriting. What should have been one of the highlights of the movie year, was in fact a boring, confusing film with pretentious dialogue and characters virtually no one could relate to. I feel sorry for the people involved, since the only thing anyone will remember about this film in the future is Cameron Diaz having sex with a Ferrari. Shame.
Agreed. Definitely McCarthy’s fault, though Scott didn’t help. Either did Diaz.

I actually liked Diaz, but her character was too outlandish.

I wanted to check this out purely based on the cast but it sounds like such a waste.

It was! A sad one, too.

The cast does all that they can, but at the end of the day, it’s just a messy script and it could only be helped for so long. Good review Fernando.

Thanks. It’s a mess alright.

Usually I let everyone have their own opinions…but you’re wrong Fernando…DEAD wrong! I’m just kidding of course, to each their own. I loved this flick!!

Exactly, to each his own. But I think you’re in a very tiny club of people who actually liked it.

I’m awaiting the inevitable Ridley Scott director’s cut on disc. Perhaps, he’ll walk back some of McCarthy’s excesses.

We can hope. I don’t think I’ll be seeing this one again, though.

It’s actually a pretty good selling point, but also one of the few memorable things.

I was right alongside you with your slight anger towards the film, and then your blog started snowing and I got all happy. 🙂

Nice review. I was interested in checking this out until I read the reviews. It’s a shame. Maybe McCarthy needs someone else to write screenplays like the Coens. He’s a great author but I guess not a strong screenwriter.

Yeah, I think so too. He’s better off letting someone else adapt his work.

Nice man. This movie must have been so bad it made your Flash Review of it even shorter! 😀
It baffles me too. HOw there is so much talent involved and the ultimate product is this?!?

LOL. I didn’t want to waste more words on it, ha! And yeah, definitely baffling.

I think I’m the only on who thought this film had some high points. That said, great flash review.

Thank you, Jaime. Hey, like they say, to each his own. But you may be on your own on that one! haha

Well you’ve already told me in person how bad this was. I guess Cormac McCarthy should’ve stuck to writing novels, eh? Bummer though as I love Ridley Scott and this cast is stellar!

I did, too. This was such a disappointment.
