Flash Review: Before Sunrise [1995]
An impossibly charming, intelectually and philosophically stimulating romance set in Vienna. The writing by Richard Linklater and Kim Krizan is genius and crackles with wit. The organic performances by Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy make this love story relatable and the “are they actually performing?” aspect of their work makes every second fascinating. An instant favorite.
Great, great movie. I loved the first two but I’ve yet to see the third one. Can’t argue with your rating here at all my man.

It’s pretty great, isn’t it? Love the first two as well. Checked Sunrise out again and Sunset for the first time this week (review coming soon) in preparation for Midnight!

Nice review. It’s a great beginning for the trilogy. I’m a fan of Linklater’s work and I think this is one of his best.

Thanks! This and Sunset are a fantastic couple of movies (haven’t seen Midnight yet).

I hadn’t heard about the trilogy until I read about Before Midnight in Filmcomment. I instantly went from clueless of them to dying to see them.
Linklater has continually amazed me. Have you seen Dazed and Confused? My very favorite of his. Also seen Bernie and School of Rock which are weak in comparison.

They’re amazing. I’ll be seeing the third one this week.
And I’m a Linklater fan but almost exclusively from the ‘Before’ films. Haven’t seen Dazed and Confused, and wasn’t the biggest fan of Bernie and School of Rock, even though they were good.

Hi Fernando! I really need to see Before Sunset before I can see this one, but I really enjoyed the first one. It’s rare to see a romantic trilogy film, so glad this one works so well.

This is actually the first one, hehe. Glad you like the films, though. Also watched Sunset this week and LOVED it. Midnight comin’ up later this week.
