Flash Review: The Bling Ring [2013]
Fascinating cautionary tale where Sofia Coppola again deals with the always-rich theme of emptiness, this time seen through the prism of wasted youth, both literally and figuratively. Unattended kids break in or walk into houses, try on jewelry and steal dresses while high on coke and it’s incredibly (and surprisingly) engrossing. A post-Hermione and gorgeous Emma Watson and breakthrough talent Israel Broussard absolutely shine in this glamorous, visually striking heist film, one of the finest offerings of 2013.
Great review, I’m looking forward to this one. May I also thankyou for bringing that Emma Watson gif into my life!

Thanks! And you’re welcome 🙂 Don’t stare at it too much, though. Alison will be jealous!

The story wasn’t all that interesting to begin with, but Coppola somehow found a way to dumb it down even more. How that was humanly possible I may never know. Good review.

Thanks. I thought the actual story wasn’t very fascinating (entitled kids stealing rich people’s stuff) but Coppola made it very engrossing.

Still need to see it. I think Emma Watson is the reason I’d get it. Love that gif.

I kind of overlooked this. I just might give it a second chance given your 4-star rave. Nice review!

I enjoyed this more than I expected to. You are so right. It was much better than the mixed reviews it got.
I will say I’m not so sure how much of a “cautionary tale” this is. There is very little in the way of a moral. In fact it ends with Nicki on a talk show telling people to go visit her web site. Harsh justice indeed.

I saw this movie recently too. We may be the only two who would dare give such a high grade. 🙂

I loved it, what can I say? Maybe it’s an age thing?

No I think it’s just Sofia Coppola’s a GENIUS and nobody wants to fucking accept it! Yes, she has a lot of fashion in her movies, but that’s her…style.

It’s in her blood 🙂

Yeah I guess. The genius part at least…not so sure whether FFC actually approves of fashion in his daughter.

Well, she loves to show it in her movies. She’s not the best dressed out there, haha. Always see her in sweats and that kind of stuff.

Somehow I knew you’d include the GIF of Emma licking her lips there, ahah. Great review Fernando, looking forward to seeing this. Surely it has to be better than Somewhere!

😉 I had to!
And I didn’t see that one, actually. Hope you enjoy Bling Ring.

It’s pretty disappointing though the premise sounds intriguing. I think Stephen Dorff is just not a strong actor to anchor such a film.

How about Elle? Love her.

Oh Elle is great in it, but the film is too overly tedious & indulgent for my liking.
