Movie Jail Relay Race
First off, a big “thank you” to Chris @ Filmhipster for passing the baton to me on this peculiar, virtual relay race.
The Movie Jail Relay Race was started by Nostra from My Filmviews and Terrence from The Focused Filmographer. These are the rules:
It’s time to put some movie people in jail. The object is to give a prosecutor’s argument as to why these movie people belong in “Movie Jail” whether it be for violating the integrity of the content source of one their films, or being a sell-out, just making bad movies overall, getting worse as time goes on or not being in a good movie for many years. The baton will be passed to another blogger who will have to do the following:
In order to free someone from Movie Jail they have to do 2 things
1 – Give a defense attorney argument defending the plaintiff
2 – Pay bail: the cost of which is another case for the court and a prosecutor’s argument against the actor/director of their choice that will replace the one set free.
There must always be 10 people in Movie Jail.
The current inmates in Movie Jail are:
Jason Friedberg & Aaron Seltzer
Vince ‘Shoot me in the Head’ Vaughn
The Participants (so far):
1. My Filmviews / The Focused Filmographer
9. …let’s be splendid about this
10. Lime Reviews and Strawberry Confessions
11. Aziza’s Picks
12. Flixchatter

15. The Warning Sign
16. 3 Guys 1 Movie

I chose to free:
Damon Lindelof
This will not be a popular choice, I know. And I have said before that Cowboys and Aliens (which he wrote) is one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. But I just can’t let one of the men responsible for Lost to be in jail. Prometheus had plotholes the size of the Nostromo, but it was also one of the most enjoyable movies of 2012 (not my favorite of the year, but definitely the one I’ve seen the most). Star Trek: Into Darkness looks pretty solid. Plus, his tweets are funny. So there.
My choice for imprisonment is:
Anna Faris
It pains me to stick Anna Faris in jail, it really does. The woman is hilarious and very pretty. She should be a huge star. But she’ll never be one because she’s hell-bent on starring in the worst tripe imaginable. Aside from Brokeback Mountain and Lost in Translation (bit parts in both of them), I dare you to name one genuinely good movie she’s been in. Nothing? Exactly. She’s the epitome of bad choices. So long, Anna Faris. You had your chance.
“Aside from Brokeback Mountain, I dare you to name one genuinely good movie she’s been in.”
Lost in Translation! Goddamn!

That’s right! I totally forgot about that one! Still, the stinkers are the overwhelming majority.

This does look like a lot of fun though. Hope I get the baton.

I’m not familiar w/ Anna Faris at all but I do see her name in the worst movies. That’s too bad as she probably could be in a lot better movies.

Yes. She’s very talented but always ends up in the lousiest films!

Not Lindelof!!

Yes! I had to save him. Lost! Either way, the choice would’ve been controversial. I was between him and LaBeouf.

I guess so. Tough choice!
Lost was great until the end, so yeah, there’s some points in there for him.

Even though I don’t like Lindelof, he’s probably better than a couple of other people here. Good choice with Farris. I liked her in a few roles like Brokeback Mountain and Lost in Translation, but I think that’s it.

I’m with you on Lindelof. He definately has hit some rough spots but like you said Lost was unforgettable and I really liked Prometheus. That doesn’t completely make up for his garbage but considering some of the other junk out there…

Yes, exactly!

Great call on Anna Faris! She annoys the hell out of me and I’m not really sure why. There’s just something that really grates on me.

I really like her! But I can understand why other people wouldn’t.

MAY was good.

Haven’t seen that one. I’ll look for it.

Yeah, it’s a really odd film, but in a good way; very unique. Definitely worth a watch.

While I don’t really have a problem with you releasing Lindelof this is “Movie” Jail Relay Race, should his work on Lost really count? And there are MUCH worse actors/actresses than Anna Faris. Miley Cyrus?
LikeLike
Even if Lost didn’t count, I’d save him for Prometheus. And obviously there are a lot of people worse than Faris. I like her. She’s very talented and I “jailed” her for squandering that talent in awful movies.
LikeLike
Ah yes, I see your squandering point. She should definitely be in better movies.

I think someone needs to release the hounds to start the manhunt for Lindelof after you sprung him from jail.

I hear he fled on an airplane but it crashed on a desert island.

I had to look up Faris’ IMDB page. I remember her in Lost in Translation, but wow, she has been in so many awful movies. She deserves a long stint for the Scary Movie series alone. 😀

Yeah, she does. Glad you agree, Eric 🙂

I’m hoping Star Trek Into Darkness lives up to expectations. Great post. I actually like Anna Faris. I just like her quirky blonde sense of humor.
By the way, the link for my post under The Participants list leads to a broken page. Do you mind fixing it for me? It should lead to this site:

Thanks! I do hope Into Darkness lives up to expectations, and I think it will. I like Anna Faris too, but she just makes the worst movies, so I definitely had to lock her up!
And yeah, I’ll fix the link. No prob!
