Happy birthday, Mr. Tarantino!
Just wanted to write a quick post and acknowledge Quentin Tarantino’s birthday. The visionary director, whose films are a genre unto itself, was born as Quentin Jerome Tarantino in Knoxville, Tennessee on March 27, 1963. That means he turns 50 today!
Look, the man’s not the most likeable fella. But he’s a cinematic genius, responsible for some of the finest films of the last 20 years, including my personal favorite and the one that sparked my love for cinema, Kill Bill Vol. 1.
So, for that I thank you, Quentin. May you stick around many years more and deliver lots of interesting projects (and that third chapter of Kill Bill you promised long ago). Happy birthday!
If you’d like to check out my review of Kill Bill Vol. 1, which was featured last year on Australian site SBS Film, click on the following image.
Happy birthday indeed! My opinion of the man himself has plummeted recently but I still love his films and I hope there are many more to come from him.

Really, Kill Bill v1 was a big one for you? Awesome Fernando, that movie is incredible. Pulp Fiction’s still my favorite, but Kill Bill is Epic. 😀

Yeah I’d better not write anything here. If I were actually wishing him a happy birthday, it wouldn’t mean anything to him anyway. 🙂

LOL. You’re probably right.

Hahaha each day my father spends without letting me watch Pulp Fiction (and each day he has spent) just adds more reason to why I hold it against him

Pulp Fiction is my favorite film but every piece of work he puts out there begs to be seen and re-watched. His talent is unsurpassed perhaps because he’s the only person who could be so heavily influenced by other people’s work and films and yet remain so unique.

I think you hit the nail on the head there, Dan. That’s why Tarantino’s style is so alluring, I think.

I watched Jackie Brown yesterday night. Awesome movie. All I seemed to keep noticing is how amusing Tarantino can be with subtleties that could easily go past the eyes of an inattentive viewer. I.e. he loves to use the number “3.” De Niro and Fonda are in the kitchen. She asks if he wants to have sex, he accepts the offer; we see a title card that says “Three minutes later”, and…they’re almost finished. We see a title card that says “Three days later” when Tarantino transitions from the main portion of the film to the epilogue-ish scenes. And then in the final sequence, when Jackie drives away, the final spoken line is “I’ll call you back in a half hour [thirty minutes].”
Also I noticed that there’s a scene in the mall where a woman with a purple and white shopping bag similar to Jackie’s asks for the time; the response is from a person without a watch. Then, within the next minute or so, we see a swatch store and a Rolex ad.
I know you’ve found these things several times, so I’m boring you to death with my comment, but it just amazes me.

Tarantino is my favorite director. I know he doesn’t plan on directing into old age, but I hope he does give us a lot more films.
