It’s the Globes!
This past week has been pretty awesome for film geeks like you and me: Oscar nominations, the Critics Choice Awards and tonight the Golden Globes, the second best award show, even when it sometimes recognizes the worst in film from the year before (The Tourist, anyone?)
I’m a fan of many of the presenters, so I’m looking forward to seeing them make an appearance but, mostly, I’m psyched to see two of my favorite people ever, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, host the whole thing. I’m sure they’ll do a fantastic job; they’re hilarious.
Below are my final predictions for the film categories.

Did you see Life of Pi yet? I think Ang Lee has a good choice at Best Director after that one.
Daniel Day-Lewis is an inevitable win for Best Actor. ahaha
I haven’t seen anything in the Foreign Film category (YET…) but I’d have to say just from what I hear that Amour and then Rust and Bone have better chances of winning than Intouchables. 😦

If Brave wins Best Animated Film, I’ll be complaining too much to hear what wins the big award. haha

Yes, I’ve seen Life of Pi. Twice, in fact, but I watched it during a very busy week at work and didn’t get to writing a review and now a lot of time has passed. I liked it, though, but prefer the book. It also doesn’t hold up well for a second viewing. Except the visuals, of course. Those remain gorgeous, haha.
Yeah. it’d be a total surprise if someone beat DDL today or at the Oscars. Same goes for Hathaway.
I think Amour is very strong but I have a feeling the HFPA might go for Intouchables. They tend to favor lighter stuff.
I don’t think Brave’ll win. I think it’s completely Ralph’s award. May be stolen by Frankenweenie but I don’t think it will be.
Best Screenplay is super packed. I predicted Tarantino for the win but it’s anyone’s game, really.
I hope Skyfall wins too. And at the Oscars.

Yeah. Amour has been having a very strong showing as of late but I have a feeling the HFPA will give it to Intouchables. They prefer lighter fare and Intouchables seems like the perfect candidate. Also, it’d be the perfect excuse to honor it when the Academy didn’t.

I agree with most of your predictions. Here’s where we differ:
Amour looks like a certainty
Jones (or maybe Hoffman) will beat Waltz (who gave the best performance, but it’s too similar to Hans Landa, and too recent for a repeat)
SLP will beat Django Unchained for original screenplay (DU is too controversial and clever for the likely voters).

Amour will probably take it, but I stand by my Intouchables prediction. It’s light and uplifting and super French, so I think the HFPA will love it even more than Amour.
About the Supporting Actor category, I think it’s the hardest one to predict. I put down Waltz but yeah, it could be him or Jones or Hoffman. Too close to call.
SLP looks like a strong contender, and it will likely win for Screenplay but sometimes the Globes leave their most offbeat, edgy choices for that category and Django fits that one.

Looking forward to this show more because of the hosts rather the vaunted Academy’s. Personally, I’d love to see ‘Argo’ get the big ones tonight. Primarily because I enjoyed it more, and I’d like to see Oscar look even more foolish for leaving Affleck off their Directors nominees. We’ll see. Fine picks, Fernando.

I’m not a fan of the Golden Globes but I will be watching them tonight to see Amy Poehler and Tina Fey host. Good picks, though I think Amour has a better chance of winning than The Intouchables.

I forgot GG was on last night but wasn’t that interested to watch anyway. Great recap though, Fernando, glad to see Chastain and DDL won, I have a feeling there’ll be repeat of that at the Oscars (I’m rooting for Chastain). Ahah yeah, glad there wasn’t a stupid movie like The Tourist getting a nom this year, whew!

Haven’t seen ZDT yet but loved seeing Chastain win. She’s incredibly talented and beautiful and humble. And of course, acting god DDL. He’s awesome.

I’ve seen Chastain in four other films and I think this is her best performance yet. I’d be curious to hear what you think of ZDT once you see it.

How in the hell did “Brave” win for best animation??? It’s awful and it hurts me to say so because I love Pixar so much. Not Cars 2 awful but awful nonetheless. Hotel Transylvania was nominated and ParaNorman was not? I mean, come on! At least I hope the Oscars will get it right and ParaNorman will win best animated feature.
Also, Naomi Watts did not win. Eff that. She should win anytime, over anyone.

I haven’t seen it yet but so far, it’s either ParaNorman or Frankenweenie. Can’t really decide but I did tend to like ParaNorman more.
