It’s the most wonderful time of the year at the happiest place on Earth!
As you read this, I’m over at the magical city of Anaheim, California, visiting Disneyland for the umpteenth time in my life. It’s said to be the “happiest place on Earth” and I wholeheartedly agree. Sure, any day you visit, it’ll be packed to the nines, guaranteed, and a bottle of water or a coffee might set you back 5 dollars, but it’s a place where everything reeks of joy and cheer. I love it.
Disneyland is breathtakingly beautiful all year round, but it’s especially awesome during Christmas. Decorations cover the entire park and some attractions even change entirely to fit the season. Last time I was here wasn’t so long ago (about 3 years), but I’m as excited about this trip as if I was a toddler, visiting for the first time.
Christmas and Disney are a match made in heaven and I can’t wait to experience everything all over again: a warm drink while strolling the park on a cold night, the long lines made fun by the company and the anticipation, the souvenirs, the parades, the rides, the fireworks show, the nostalgia.

Incidentally, my high school’s marching band is celebrating Christmas down in Florida. Some participants are being accompanied by their families, and some going to Disney World. I could have had that chance, but when I tried marching band (for a single fifteen hour block of band camp), I couldn’t stand it–and I was in the PIT! (Please just say nothing, I get enough crap about it at school from the serious music nerds; I only play the piano (6.5 years) and the violin (4 years), so I’m kind of a “half-in-half-out” in the music scenario.)
I’ve never been to Disneyland (the first time I went to California, let alone a different time zone, was for my most recent birthday), but I’ve been to Disney World several times. Great, great memories. My mother constantly reminds me of when I was a toddler, when we would go down to Disney World because my great-grandfather lived in Florida, and it was nearby when we went to visit him. One trip, I’ve been told, my uncle got tired of hearing about Mickey Mouse, with whom I was OBSESSED at the time. He said, “Ah, I wish I could just SHOOT Mickey Mouse!” Of course, I had no clue what he meant, but I repeated, “Shoot Mickey Mouse,” several times with a forlorn look on my face. “No! With a camera!” My uncle trying to defend his impulse. Another time my grandmother got hugely negative attention (again, it’s from what I hear) when she shouted “This is like marching to Auschwitz,” as she walked through the park in the heat. I guess I shouldn’t elaborate on that one…
The only trip I can REMEMBER to Disney is the most recent, and most expensive, because we actually stayed a few days in one of the hotels they provide. I was in fifth grade, and it was right after Christmas. It was right as I was falling in love with movies, so I was REALLY captivated by Hollywood Studios (a section of the park formerly known as “MGM”).

Hi Fernando!! Oooh I LOVE Disneyland! It’s been ages since I visited but I’ve always wanted to go back. I think one is never too old for Disneyland, ha..ha.. Sounds like a fun time to do it around the holiday season, good for you! Anyway, I’m back now. Will resume blogging after Christmas, still ‘recovering’ from my hectic trip. I’m so jealous you went to Disney at Christmas time! I’ve been to Florida twice, once when I was five and the second time I was 11 but I’m desperate to go again. We’ve decided that we’re going to go to San Francisco for Rob’s 30th and Disney again for mine 😀 I cannot wait, and may have to arrange it for around the festive period to get the most out of it!
