J.K. Rowling [31-July-1965]
47 years ago today, Joanne Katherine Rowling was born in Yate, Gloucestershire, England. She is one of the most prolific authors in history and one of the most influential people living today. In 1990, while on a train trip, she received the inspiration for the character Harry Potter and the fascinating magical world he lives in. As soon as she got home, she started putting those ideas to paper and, well, the rest is history. The seven books in the HP series have become some of the most successful publications ever, and they’ve been adapted to the screen in eight (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8) movies that are critically lauded, loved by the people and revitalized British cinema. She beat poverty and is now the richest woman in the UK, even wealthier than the Queen. Today also marks the birthday of her famous Harry, one of the most iconic literary characters in history. He turns 32.
Happee Birthday Harry (and J.K!)
Somehow I have managed to avoid all the books, films and merchandise associated with her work. However, I will wish her a happy birthday for getting kids to actually read a book.

Really? That’s a fantastic achievement in itself. I, for one, can’t resist anything HP-related so it surprises me that you’ve managed to avoid it. I guess it’s not for everyone.

It’s unbelievable how wealthy she is now because of Potter. It’s really every writer/novelist’s dream come true. For a while I resisted HP too because I thought it’s for kids, but once I saw the first film I was hooked!

I too love Potter; I can’t resist anything Potter related either! I really want to go to the Harry Potter world in America. I’m hopefully going to go for my 30th birthday (thankfully not too close and enough time to save up!). The books are great for children and adults alike. Are you looking forward to her new novel?

I want to go too! SO BAD. A trip to Orlando would be very pricey, though so I maybe I’ll wait for the one they’ll build in Hollywood, so I don’t have to buy plane tickets, hehe. Hope you get to visit either one of those soon. And yes, I’m looking forward to The Casual Vacancy. I’m curious to see how she does with a non-HP related book.
