From and Inspired by: The Hunger Games
Today, I present to you music from the album The Hunger Games: Songs From District 12 and Beyond. The first song in the album, “Abraham’s Daughter” by Arcade Fire, plays over the end credits of that March über-hit. The other 15 do not appear in the movie at all but were inspired by Katniss and Peeta’s plight. The two best tracks, in my opinion, are:
Maroon 5‘s “Come Away to the Water” (ft. Rozzi Crane). No surprise there, I’ve been obsessed with that band for 10 years now.
And 16 year-old newcomer from the UK, Jasmine van den Bogaerde, aka Birdy, with “Just a Game”.

I liked the musical score by James Newton Howard. Will definitely give this soundtrack a listen.

When I saw this post, I was afraid you were going to write about Taylor Swift’s song. Her song (no pun intended…) was what put me on the fence, in fear that this was going to be an upbeat love story, like every one of her songs are about. I absofuckinglutely HATE her, and I’m glad my little sister’s out of her over-the-top obsession with her. Regardless, the songs you included were interesting. I like Maroon 5–but I haven’t listened to them in quite a while–and I have to say I have not ever heard of Birdy. 🙂 Good post.

Thanks! And although I like Taylor Swift, I didn’t like the songs she did for the soundtrack. Hadn’t heard of Birdy before this album, but I’m glad I listened to her. Her voice is beautiful.

You think so? I actually think they’re taking quite a while to release it. 5 months is a long wait nowadays. Some movies are out on DVD about 3 months after their theatrical release! hehe
