Twitter feud with a celebrity: Check!
Well, he’s not exactly a celebrity and it wasn’t really a feud, but you catch my drift. This afternoon Richard Roeper, journalist, film critic and former Roger Ebert co-host, published the following tweet:

That response from Roeper made me realize that I made a mistake by calling him an asshole. I overreacted to a tasteless joke and fired back, aided by the relative anonymity that Twitter supplies. But that doesn’t change the fact it was a crude joke. So, what say you, dear followers? Was I right or wrong?
Haha. I love it. I don’t care if you were right or wrong. Calling Roeper and asshole is okay in my book. Hahaha 😉

He’s definitely an asshole, and I think he probably knows if he posts stuff like this a lot (does he? I don’t use Twitter), but I’d say calling him one leads to a whole other argument. So I’d say I definitely agree with you, but I agree with his statement that “resorting to obscenities and name-calling doesn’t really help your cause.” 🙂

I agree with Mark and The Cinemaniac. Your sentiment was spot on – at least on the basis of this particular tweet – AND you probably shouldn’t have responded as you did. But as you did it, I wouldn’t worry about it now especially as you were right 🙂

I saw the title and I was like who was the person who messed with you? Let me put it this way… he should be the blogger, and you should be the payed critic with everything he has.

Yeah, I agree. Roeper is one of my least favorite critics, not because he’s a jackass, but because he films all his reviews. I know some people love video reviews, but I, on the other hand, can’t stand them. Maybe it’s my computer that causes part of the problem, but even on other computers, it takes not much less time. They take up about three minutes initially, then they require twice that amount of time to buffer. Then I get distracted and open up a new tab WHILE it’s buffering. Then the video starts playing in the other tab. Then I try to click on the tab, but the browser I’m on tells me it’s “not responding”. By the time it responds, the review has ended, and there’s no point trying again to hear the man’s opinion, because I would be best going back to the original tab and reading the little blurb he writes to SUMMARIZE his review. I’m glad computers don’t need to buffer Java and Adobe and whatnot in order to display plain ol’ fashioned text. 🙂

Ahah! That’s brilliant Fernando! I know what you mean; I’d feel guilty if I called anyone an asshole and instantly want to take it back but everyone before me is right. Posting stuff like that on twitter, or indeed Facebook, is just to provoke a response which is idiotic in itself – he deserves whatever he gets.
