Real Steel [2011]
In the near future, the way people entertain themselves has changed a bit. With an audience hooked on an increasingly violent form of boxing with which humans cannot keep up, robots are the ones entering the ring for battle in 2020, a move that guarantees maximum destruction and no deaths. Yes, as one might infer, this is very repetitive and predictable but, surprisingly, it’s also every bit as fun as its not-so-wild premise promises. The visual effects in Real Steel are outstanding and Dakota Goyo, who plays “Max”, is a revelation. He’s a young boy full of talent, and he’s flanked by the charismatic and game Hugh Jackman and Evangeline Lilly.
Still surprised at the warm reception this film has gotten. Kind of curious to see it for myself but it’s low on my ‘to watch’ list at the moment. Nice review!

Thanks 🙂 It was surprisingly good. Cheesy and predictable, but very fun.

Your review is short and to the point. I agree. It’s predictable but fun. I couldn’t stand little Max. I was waiting for someone to punish that little brat for being so insolent. 🙂

Real Steel is a blast, an unabashed crowd-pleaser that mixes Rocky, Transformers, video games and father-son bonding to great, if corny, effect. Still didn’t need to be 127 minutes though. Nice review.

Yeah, it’s a nice little blend but I agree: it was too long.
