In Time [2011]
Directed and written by Andrew Niccol (Gattaca), In Time is based on a spectacular concept: a future where money does not exist and time is the only currency. People physically age until they reach 25 years. It’s then when their clock starts ticking, literally, and if they don’t get more time by work, theft or inheritance, they’ll be gone within a year. Fascinating material for a sci-fi movie. The problem is in the execution. Not a terrible job from Niccol exactly, but In Time doesn’t quite reach the full potential of its intriguing ideas. A clever, detailed, exciting and visually appealing film bogged down by overdone, melodramatic performances and consistently cheesy dialog.
Of all the movies released in 2011, this was the last one I would expect you to see. Surprised by the 3 star grade, but good review.

Hehe, I actually like sci-fi and the concept of “In Time” seemed very interesting to me. It was surprisingly good but it could’ve been great.

Yeah ive heard from everyone thatvthe critics were negative toward it and no one knows why. Didn’t know you liked sci-fi, but who doesn’t?

Liked the concept, the acting wasn’t terrible but as you said the script was lacking. That scene where he was running toward his mom wasnt supposed to make me laugh out loud. At least I don’t think it was. 🙂

I completely agree; it could have been so much better. I was really disappointed because I love dystopian futures, and it sounds like it came straight out of a Kurt Vonnegut novel. Like you say, the dialogue is pretty cheesy too, not something I picked up on first time around!

I love dystopian fiction too and this just barely missed the mark. Maybe another director/writer and a more experienced cast. I’m a big fan of Justin (the man can do almost anything) but he lacked gravitas here.
