Countdown to Oscar [Part I]
As we near the most wonderful day of the year, Oscar day, I want to share with you what I consider were the finest films of 2011. I waited until just before Hollywood’s biggest night so I could watch the most films but I still missed movies like Shame, Young Adult and My Week with Marilyn which, as of this date, have not yet opened in Mexico. Hope you enjoy my picks (titles link to my reviews). I’ll appreciate your feedback.

Edgar.
Worst of the year:
The Hangover Part II, Cowboys & Aliens.
Still haven’t seen: Shame, Young Adult, My Week with Marilyn, Take Shelter, Tyrannosaur.
Great list; I’ve seen #s 6, 5, 3, and 1, and I have placed them on my list as #s 9, 3, 1, and 5. In your honorable mentions (brief, like mine :)), I have only seen The Help (#7 on my list), but I am DYING to see The Ides of March. Maybe not so much Win Win or Jane Eyre, but I’ll try for those two. In your next category, I have seen The Descendants (#4 on my list), Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part II (#2 on my list), Contagion (just missed my list, but I own it on DVD anyway), M:I – Ghost Protocol (one of my honorable mentions, too), Limitless (again, on my honorable mentions), Source Code (just missed by list; thought it was a high-tech update of Groundhog Day), and J. Edgar (#10 on my list). I have seen Cowboys & Aliens (fun fact: it was the first review on my original Blogspot blog, before I joined WordPress and started with Big Fish :)), and I didn’t find it great (what idiot did?), but I didn’t find it as painstaking as you did. In your still haven’t seen, I haven’t seen any of those either, and, in fact, I have not heard of Tyrannosaur at all.
You saw a lot this year! More than I did, for sure. 🙂 I thought I remembered you saying Thor was terrible, also, though, so shouldn’t that be on your WOTY list?

Thanks for reading and commenting 🙂 Tyrannosaur is a fairly small drama that’s known for its great acting from Brits Peter Mullan and Olivia Colman; it won a BAFTA the other day.
And yeah, I tried to watch a lot of films this year. And about Thor, did I really say it wa sterrible? I just remember not liking it very much but I don’t think it deserves to be among the worst of the year.

You gave it a star and a half; I think that would go among the worst, especially when you gave Cowboys & Aliens the same grade. Your review, however, was more of a two- or two-and-a-half-star review, so I fully get what you’re saying. As a note on your review, I liked the film Thor, but I do agree with you that it fails as a “fish-out-of-water” comedy. 🙂

I enjoyed everything on your list. I haven’t seen The Skin I Live In. That’s on my “to watch” list. #1, 2, 3, 5, & 8 I absolutely adored. #6, 7, 9, & 10 I enjoyed, but wouldn’t make my best of the year and The Hangover Part II was in my worst of the year as well. All in all a very nice list. Well done!

That’s an interesting list Fernando. There’s still a couple I’ve yet to see, hence my top ten list hasn’t been made yet. What interests me most is how “Melancholia” hasn’t appeared on any lists that I’ve come across. However, it’s great to see “The Tree of Life” there. That’s one of the top three for me.

Nice list. I really want to see “Midnight in Paris”, I’ve heard great things about that movie. I am glad to see someone else who loved “Warrior”.

I’ve only seen five on your list. Midnight in Paris is my favorite from those that you listed. I’m waiting to see Shame before I finalize my own rankings.
