¡Átame! [1990]
You know you’re in the presence of a great filmmaker when a dark, campy comedy with striking visuals and funny writing is one of his minor works. It’s no secret that I’m a huge Pedro Almodóvar fan and ¡Átame!, the picture he released the year I was born, is a fun and twisted comedy-thriller, reminiscent of gems like Mujeres al Borde de un Ataque de Nervios and Kika, and a humorous companion piece to his latest, La Piel Que Habito. Victoria Abril, Antonio Bandera and Loles León are memorable in this sexy shocker.
I’m a big Almodovar fan but have to admit, I’d never heard of this. I’ll check it out, straight after I get through THE SKIN I LIVE IN.
