La Piel que Habito [2011]
Dark, Vertigo-esque thriller is the first collaboration in 21 years between Antonio Banderas and one of the filmmakers who helped shape his career (and one of my favorite directors), Pedro Almodóvar. Like all the great films by the talented Pedro, this is campy, over-the-top and insane (insanely gripping, too). There’s an expert use of music (Alberto Iglesias provided the moody score) and, of course, a terrific cast: Antonio Banderas, new chica Almodóvar Elena Anaya and Blanca Suárez being the main attention-grabbers. One of the best of the year.
Can’t wait to see this. Great review!

This movie has been getting a lot of quiet praise, I really want to see it. Great review as always.

Thanks! I absolutely loved it. It’s one of the best of 2011. But I’m biased. I’m a huge Pedro fan.

It was gripping and PA definitely knows how to construct a glossy story using cinematography, sets and music. But nothing made sense. Why would a man start up a romantic relationship with someone he hates is basically the best way I put my problem without spoiling the movie. PA didn’t answer this question or any other questions I had. He went for shock value and in that area he succeeded. It had its moments, but I really wanted to love this movie because I know it’s one of your favorites. Sorry.

I get what you mean. I just interpreted that situation as Dr. Ledgard wanting to exact revenge on Vicente by making him part of his sick experiment and he then fell in love with his “creation”. There was no trace of Vicente in Vera now, not on the outside at least.

Hmmm that’s the best explanation I’ve heard yet. Nicely put.
