Get Him to the Greek [2010]
Moderately enjoyable comedy from Nicholas Stoller, spun off the far better Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Funny enough to not qualify as a waste of time, but the tonal shifts and the sheer unlikability of its characters weigh Get Him to the Greek down. The performances are great, however. Russell Brand was born to play obnoxious Aldous Snow; Jonah Hill and Elisabeth Moss are memorable, but it’s Rose Byrne and (quite surprisingly) Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs who steal the whole show.
This was my pick for worst film of 2010. Needless to say, I didn’t care for it.

Yeah, I read your review last night. I was like “damn, he REALLY didn’t like this movie!” haha

Not as funny as I was expecting but Brand and Hill work great together and I think that’s what is makes this good. Nice review.

You really need to post some more reviews! I’m getting hooked on this blog, but the problem is I’ve read through nearly the entire thing! 😀 As for this film, I have not seen it, and I do not plan to see it. I think Russell Brand’s humor is offensive and boring, and he has an appalling background, so I refuse to see any of his films.

Yeah, I’m not the biggest Brand fan myself, but he’s tolerable in this film. And thanks for reading! I promise I’ll be updating the blog soon. I’ve just been very busy but I’ve pending reviews for Attack the Block, Beginners, Festen, The Help, A Better Life, Win Win, The Fall and Melancholia.

The only one of those I saw was The Help–great film, in my opinion. Did you read the book? It was barely better than the film version, I thought, but the language used was hard to comprehend because…I guess the most respectful way I can put it is that the author literally writes out Ebonics. Haha, maybe that still wasn’t respectful enough. I’ll be anticipating what you have to say about that film!

No, I haven’t read The Help. It’s on my must-read list, though. And I totally get what you mean with the Ebonics thing haha, I’ve read books like that and it’s freakin’ hard! And thanks for recommending J. Edgar. I’m curious to watch it since I’m a HUGE DiCaprio fan. It just hasn’t opened in Mexico yet. I agree that Hereafter and Invictus were sorta disappointing, but I’m surprised you didn’t like Million Dollar Baby (which I think is great). Another recent Eastwood film that I loved was Changeling.

Also, I think it’s out of theaters already, but I wanted to recommend the film J. Edgar to you. Really great biopic of J. Edgar Hoover, as usual great job done by Leo DiCaprio, and one of the better films made by Clint Eastwood within recent years. (I say that because I didn’t like Million Dollar Baby, and Hereafter and Invictus could have been much better.) Try to find it when it comes to DVD–I think you’d like it!
